In practice
Most window problems in the UAE trace back to the profile rather than the glass. A standard aluminium section conducts heat straight through the frame, so on a west-facing elevation you get a frame that is uncomfortably hot to touch by mid-afternoon and a room the air conditioning fights all day. A thermally broken profile puts a polyamide strip between the inner and outer sections, interrupting that path. It costs more per linear metre and it earns that back on any elevation taking direct afternoon sun.
The second decision is the opening type, dictated by how the room is used more than by appearance. Casement windows seal best, because the sash compresses against a gasket on all four sides — the right answer where you want the tightest possible air seal. Sliding windows never seal that well, because a sliding sash runs on brushes and tracks rather than compression gaskets, but they take no swing space, which matters on a balcony or a narrow room. Tilt-and-turn gives you both: tilt for secure background ventilation, turn for full opening and for cleaning the outside face from indoors — a genuine practical advantage above the second floor.
Glass then follows the frame. Double glazing only performs if the frame can carry the extra weight and the glazing rebate is deep enough for the unit, usually 24mm for a standard 6-12-6 build-up. Fitting an insulated unit into a shallow rebate meant for single glass is a common shortcut, and it fails at the edge seal — which is exactly where argon escapes and where condensation eventually appears between the panes.
One detail people underestimate is drainage. Aluminium window systems are drained rather than sealed: water that gets past the outer gasket is collected in a channel and taken back out through weep holes at the bottom. Those holes look like a defect and get filled with silicone by well-meaning maintenance staff. Sealing them does not stop water getting in — it stops water getting out.

Questions
On elevations that take direct sun, yes — it reduces heat conducted through the frame and cuts condensation risk around the frame edge in heavily air-conditioned rooms. On a shaded north elevation or an internal opening it usually is not, and we will say so.
In most cases yes. Where the existing frame is sound we can sometimes retain it and fit a new unit inside it, which avoids disturbing the reveal. Where the frame is corroded, full removal is the honest answer and we make good afterwards.
Some, but less than people expect — standard double glazing is designed for heat, not sound. If noise is the real problem, a laminated pane or two panes of differing thickness does far more than simply adding a second identical pane.
It depends on pane size, wind exposure and whether the glass is in a safety-critical location. Larger panes and higher floors need thicker or laminated glass. We size it during the survey rather than defaulting to one thickness for the whole job.
Usually a perished or shrunken gasket, or a sash that has dropped slightly out of alignment so it no longer compresses evenly. Both are inexpensive to put right and neither needs a new window.
